The campaign to bring Speedway back to Bristol has received a timely boost.
Having identified a site in Avonmouth a planning pre-application to build a track was submitted to Bristol City Council last year. On the whole the response was positive, with the exception of Natural England, who felt that the bikes would disturb birds on the nearby River Severn. Because of this the Council put a halt to the process.
As a result many Speedway fans, both locally and nationally, contacting Natural England to point out that many existing tracks co-exist quite happily with wildlife and that it shouldn't be an issue. Eventually after a number of meetings Natural England agreed and have withdrawn their objections.
Bristol will be looking to resubmit the application in the next few months. |
