Bert Harkins agrees to become SFU Honorary Patron

altHaving met at the recent Celebration of Speedway event at the Paradise Wildlife Park, in Broxbourne, Hertfordshire, the committee of SFU are delighted to confirm that Bert Harkins has agreed to become Speedway Fans United’s first Honorary Patron.

Bert, who is a long standing committee member of the World Speedway Riders Association, said he was "pleased and honoured to be given the opportunity to take the position of Patron of SFU".

Many will know that Bert hails from Scotland, and he is proud to let everyone know this, he is a long-term servant to the sport of speedway having first ridden in the early 1960’s.

When asked which tracks he had ridden for he replied that it was easier to list those that he had not ridden for. However he recalled in particular, Edinburgh, Coatbridge, Cowdenbeath, Wembley, Wimbledon, Sheffield, Milton Keynes and Bakersfield Bandits (USA), he has also ridden for Scotland (of course) and Great Britain

WSRA Recognition

altHaving been formed just 6 weeks ago, we are pleased to announce that we have been Officially Recognised by the World Speedway Riders Association (WSRA) as the National Supporters Association for speedway fans in the UK.

This is a major development with regards to our standing within the speedway world, and will hopefully increase the awareness of Speedway Fans United through the WSRA members.

The WSRA was formed back in 1957/58 by journalist, Peter Arnold, originally as 'The Veteran DIRT TRACK Riders' Association', the name was later amended to 'The Veteran SPEEDWAY riders' Association' then, in 2006 become 'The WORLD Speedway Riders' Association'. The WSRA website can be found at www.world-sra.org.uk
